Retention is the question to settle first. Thirty days at full frame rate across twenty cameras is a very different recorder to seven days at reduced rate, and it moves the price more than the cameras do.
We never expose a recorder straight to the internet. Internet-facing recorders with default passwords are among the most reliably compromised devices on any network.
